How to cancel an AI video app subscription

Last updated: September 2026

On an iPhone, open Settings, tap your name at the top, tap Subscriptions, tap the app, then tap Cancel Subscription. That path works for any App Store subscription regardless of what the app's own screens do. Cancelling stops the next charge; it does not refund what you have already paid, and you keep access until the period you paid for runs out. Deleting the app does not cancel anything.

Vodu AI is billed by Apple, so the steps on this page cancel it exactly as they cancel anything else — $7.99 a week or $99.99 a year, free to download, and nothing to cancel until you choose to subscribe.

Cancel from Settings — the path that always works

Two minutes, five taps:

  1. Open Settings on your iPhone or iPad. Not the app you are trying to cancel — its own screens cannot do this, whatever they say. Settings is the most reliable route on an iPhone, and it works whether or not the app still opens at all. (The App Store app gets you to the same screen; that route is below.)
  2. Tap your name at the very top. The row with your photo and Apple Account email, above Airplane Mode and Wi‑Fi.
  3. Tap Subscriptions. You will see Active subscriptions first, then Expired ones underneath. If the app is not in either list, it is almost certainly not billed by Apple — see below.
  4. Tap the subscription you want to end. The detail screen shows the plan you are on, the price and the exact date of the next renewal.
  5. Tap Cancel Subscription, then confirm. If the button says Cancel Free Trial, that is the same action. When it is done the screen shows an expiry date instead of a renewal date — that date is your proof it worked.

The thing worth knowing: an App Store subscription is an agreement between you and Apple, not between you and the developer. A “cancel” button inside an app cannot end it, and neither can deleting the app or emailing the company. Only Apple's subscription screen can — which also means no app can stop you reaching it.

Cancel from the App Store app instead

Same outcome, different route, useful when you are already in the App Store:

  1. Open the App Store.
  2. Tap your profile picture in the top-right corner.
  3. Tap your name at the top of that screen to open your account.
  4. Tap Subscriptions, pick the app, and tap Cancel Subscription.

On a Mac, open the App Store, click your name in the bottom-left corner, click Account Settings, then Manage next to Subscriptions. From any browser you can sign in at apps.apple.com/account/subscriptions and do the same thing there. If your subscription was bought on an Android phone it lives in the Google Play Store instead: profile icon → Payments and subscriptions → Subscriptions.

What cancelling does and does not do

 Cancelling in Settings

Happens if you just delete the appNo — the billing continues

How to ask Apple for a refund

Cancelling and refunding are different requests, and people conflate them constantly. To ask for money back:

  1. Go to reportaproblem.apple.com and sign in with the Apple Account that was charged.
  2. Choose Request a refund, pick a reason, then select the charge from the list of recent purchases.
  3. Submit it and wait — Apple normally replies within a few days.

Be realistic about the outcome. Apple decides these, not the developer, and a specific factual reason does better than a general complaint: “the app charged me for a yearly plan when I selected the monthly one” is a stronger case than “I did not like it.” It does not always work, and reviewers say so in plain terms — “I tried to get a refund the day I purchased and was denied” is a verbatim one-star review of AI Video Generator - Openart. If the first request is declined you can reply to the decision once with more detail.

Why so many people end up searching for this

In September 2026 we read 1,914 App Store reviews across 52 AI video and AI photo apps; 1,043 of them were one or two stars. 65 of those reviews are about being unable to cancel, and another 130 are people asking for their money back. It is the most consistent failure in the category, and the reviews are blunt about it:

“Impossible to cancel subscription” — a review title that appears twice on Lisa: AI Photo & Video Editor, alongside “They charge me 7.99 every time. I cant unsubscribe.” and “I canceled and they still charging me now 5 months”.

“Super hard to cancel subscription BEWARE … No way to cancel. That's awful.” — GIO - AI Photoshoot Generator. “The app glitches when you cancel and locks you into the subscription.” — AI Picture to video : StoryZ.

Here is the part almost none of those reviewers were told, and it is the reason this page exists: if the subscription is billed by Apple, none of that can actually stop you. An app's own cancel flow can glitch, hide itself behind a support form or simply not exist, and the Settings path still ends the subscription in five taps. The app is not in a position to refuse.

The exception is real and it matters. Some of these charges were never Apple's to begin with — they were taken on a website with a card, through PayPal, or on a plan bought on a desktop before the app was ever installed. Those genuinely can be hard to leave, because you are dealing with the company's own billing rather than Apple's. Check your bank statement before you assume: a line reading APPLE.COM/BILL is an App Store charge and the steps above end it. Anything else has to be cancelled where you bought it.

Choosing an AI video app whose pricing you can leave

If you are here because you are cancelling one app and about to try another, four things in the same review corpus predict whether you will be back on this page in a month:

  • Billed by Apple, not by a web checkout. It is the difference between a five-tap cancellation and an email thread. If a video app asks for your card on its own website, you have given up the Settings screen above.
  • Find out whether it is a subscription, credits, or both — before you pay, not after. 47 reviews in the corpus are from people who found out afterwards: “they want you to pay $12 a week and you HAVE to buy coins on top of it to use the app” (AI Video Generator + Creator) and “Credit system (despite subscription) prevents any meaningful use of app.” (YouCam Video). Note what the real test is. It is not whether an app sells credits — plenty of good ones do, ours among them. It is whether the purchase screen told you what the subscription on its own actually generates.
  • The trial terms stated before the trial starts. 122 reviews are from people who took a free trial and were charged anyway — “Charged me 12.99 for a supposedly 7 day free trial!” (AI Video Generator + Creator). The renewal date is on Apple's subscription screen from the moment you subscribe; check it that day, not on day six.
  • Something you can judge before you pay. The largest cluster in the whole corpus — 119 reviews — is people who could not generate anything at all without subscribing first, and every one of them is a person who paid before seeing whether the output was any good.

Apply that test to our own app, because it deserves it. Vodu AI is free to download and free to start, so the fourth point is covered, and it is billed by Apple, so the first one is. On the second: Vodu sells a subscription at $7.99 per week or $99.99 per year and one-time coin packs on top of it (US App Store, as of July 2026) — which is the same subscription-plus-credits shape flagged two bullets above, and we are not going to pretend otherwise. What we can do is put every price and every pack in one place: our pricing sheet lists all of them, and the app shows the cost before you confirm anything. The five taps at the top of this page cancel it exactly as they cancel any other App Store subscription. If you want to weigh it against the rest of the category first, our ranking of the best AI video apps puts it next to Runway, Synthesia, HeyGen and four others.

Frequently asked questions

Does deleting the app cancel the subscription?

No, and this is the mistake that costs people the most money. Deleting an app removes it from your phone and changes nothing about the billing agreement behind it — the charge keeps arriving every week or every month until you cancel it in Settings. Cancel first, then delete.

Will I get a refund when I cancel?

No. Cancelling stops the next charge only; money already taken stays taken, and you keep access until the period you paid for runs out. A refund is a separate request to Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com, and Apple decides it — the developer cannot grant or refuse it for App Store purchases.

Can I keep using the app until the end of the period I paid for?

Yes. Cancelling is not a switch-off. If you cancel on day two of a month you have paid for, the app keeps working for the remaining twenty-eight days and then stops renewing. There is no benefit to waiting until the last day, and there is a real risk in it.

How do I cancel a free trial without being charged?

Cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends. Apple starts the renewal process up to a day before the date shown, so a cancellation on the final afternoon can land after the charge has already been authorised. Open Settings, cancel on the day you start the trial if you like — the trial still runs to its end date.

The app is not in my Subscriptions list. What now?

Then Apple is not billing you for it. The three usual explanations are that you subscribed on the company's website with a card or PayPal rather than in the app, that you are signed in with a different Apple Account from the one that bought it, or that the purchase sits with a Family Sharing organiser. Check who the receipt came from: an Apple receipt comes from Apple and a bank line that reads APPLE.COM/BILL is an Apple charge. Anything else has to be cancelled wherever you bought it.

I cancelled and I am still being charged.

Check the Subscriptions screen again and confirm it shows an expiry date rather than a renewal date. If it does and money is still leaving your account, the charge is coming from somewhere else — most often a second subscription to the same company taken out on a website, or a duplicate bought on another Apple Account. Compare the amount and the date on your statement with the price on the Apple subscription screen; they will not match.
